July 26, 2019—A critical firmware update will be released next week that will affect all ProNav users. An update to the ProNav Mobile App will require users to complete a firmware update to their ProNav Angler GPS unit prior to using the system.
Additionally, current Motion Controller owners will receive a free SmartSync Connection Hub. This hub will allow simultaneous connection of the Motion Controller and a mobile device to the GPS unit. Connection hubs will begin shipping to customers the week of July 29th, 2019.
ProNav’s promise is to ensure that our customers never have outdated hardware on their boat. ProNav app updates and firmware updates are always available to our customers at no extra cost. As part of this promise, we are making the Connection Hub available to customers free of charge.

GPS Unit – Critical Firmware Update (Version 2.0.0)
All ProNav Angler owners will be required to perform a firmware update to their GPS Unit prior to using their system once the new app is installed on your mobile device(s). If you do not own the Motion Controller, the firmware update will be the same process as previous updates. Make sure your ProNav app is updated before proceeding—to verify your app is up to date, visit the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and search for “ProNav Angler”. Please reference our firmware update video for a step-by-step guide on this firmware update process. You should set aside 15-20 minutes to complete the update process and have a strong Wi-Fi or mobile data connection available.
ProNav strongly encourages you complete this process at home or in your garage prior to heading out on the water to ensure the system has updated successfully. If you receive an “out-of-date firmware” message while you’re out on the water, your system can still be updated at that time with a strong mobile data connection.
Motion Controller – Critical Firmware Update (Version 1.0.1)
Owners of the Motion Controller will first need to complete the above GPS Unit Firmware Update. There is one additional step of updating the controller itself. To do this, find the Motion Controller Firmware Update option located in the main menu of the ProNav app. You may also follow the step-by-step instructions at www.pronavmarine.com/motionlearn.
This firmware update is required for the Motion Controller to work simultaneously with the app and ProNav Angler unit—until completing it you will not be able to use your Motion Controller with the ProNav Angler system. Allow an additional 5-10 minutes to complete this update. Again, ProNav strongly advises you complete this update process at home or off the water. The Motion Controller update will be completed via Bluetooth and is a slightly different and simpler process than updating the ProNav Angler GPS unit.
Firmware Update Service Program
ProNav strives to make the firmware update process as easy as possible for our customers. However, we do realize it may be easier for some customers to have their system updated by us, the manufacturer.
For a nominal service fee of $50, including shipping both ways, the Firmware Update Service program allows customers to send in their ProNav Angler unit for a complete tune-up. Our technicians will complete the update, inspect your hardware, and verify that your system is operating at peak performance.
We’ll provide you with a mailing label and packing instructions for you to send your unit back to us, we’ll complete the service, and we’ll return your unit back to you. Typical service time is 1 week, which does not include shipping time. An expedited service is available for customers that require an even faster turnaround time. New Motion Controller Connection Hubs
Current Owners of the Motion Controller
All current owners of the Motion Controller will be sent a SmartSync Connection Hub, free of charge. This new SmartSync technology allows users to simultaneously connect their mobile device and Motion Controller to the ProNav GPS unit. This Connection Hub must be installed in line with the ProNav Control Unit between the power supply (batteries) and control unit, as seen in the image below.
An additional benefit of the ProNav Connection Hub is improved Bluetooth connection strength, enabled by a high-power antenna, ensuring your mobile device and handheld controller always establish and maintain a strong connection to the GPS unit . The Connection Hub is backward compatible for all customers that currently own a ProNav Angler.
Connection Hubs will begin shipping to current Motion Controller customers the week of July 29th, 2019. The Connection Hub will not be useful to users until their app and firmware updates are completed. Upon receiving your Connection Hub, the updated Android and iOS apps will be available, at which time you will need to complete the necessary firmware updates on your ProNav GPS unit and Motion Controller.

Future ProNav Angler and Motion Controller Customers
Future ProNav Angler and Motion Controller owners will not need the Connection Hub hardware since the SmartSync technology will be fully integrated with the GPS Unit on all future ProNav Angler models shipped after August 1, 2019. This integration will make it easier for future customers to use the Motion Controller with their ProNav system, as the connection hub will not be required. Until the new, fully-integrated models start to ship, any customer who purchases a Motion Controller will be provided a Connection Hub at no extra cost.
